About

Little River Farm

On our little farm in Braidwood we grow dahlias. Over winter we carefully dig and divide our tubers to share with other dahlia enthusiasts each spring. We learn as we go, and we enjoy sharing any tips we pick up along our way.

Dahlia Growing Tips

Dahlias love the sun! Choose a spot with at least 6–8 hours of direct sunlight and well-drained soil. If you’re in a cool climate, plant your tubers after the last frost, around

8-10cm deep, with the eye facing up. Water lightly at first as too much moisture early on can cause rot. Once your dahlias sprout and grow about 40cm tall, pinch the top to encourage bushier growth and more blooms.
